I quite like this drawing

Roughs for illustrations are always discarded/trashed/scrumpled up in a teeny ball and set alight - but I have just been having a look through some of mine from various projects and thinking that I do like them just as they are.
Very often my roughs are super quick, automatic drawings on whatever bit of paper is to hand, but then that is the nature of ILLUSTRATION - communication via the visual, or visual notetaking. Get the idea on paper, quick.
Anyway, this rough drawing was rejected as an idea for one of a series of final illo, but here it is anyway. (the guitar is not meant to be see through, but I like the idea of a glass guitar)

Charley, Charlotte & the Golden Canary by Charles Keeping (1967)

As a bird drawing fanatic, I absolutely love this image. The YELLOW!!!
I am currently researching resource material for a Level 3 Illustration project I am setting at ECA...and so checking out all sorts of beautiful, inspiring imagery from children's books. It is such hard work, but someone has to do it.

BBC4 "Picture Book"

Picture Book is a fantastic 3 part series about the history and development of the children's picture book from the BBC...a proper illustrator's feast!
I just watched the first part on the iPlayer - free free free!
